Is reality nothing more than a narrative? A visual and or linguistic construction that can be controlled and that controls what we say and how we think? I reality nothing more than words and images? If reality is nothing more than a visual or linguistic construction than reality is a figment of what we imagine, ...
Christine's Journal
Sometimes artists have muses, I am no exception. Muses are often their source of inspiration. Muses give the artist a sense of passion about something. My muses are words – and the concepts they conjure up for me. Words never cease to inspire me which is why I call myself a conceptual artist and why I write a blog and about beautiful moments in the day.

I have to agree by putting yourself out there it pushes you to think and look beyond your comfort zone. Yes it is subjective - but because all my recent work tries to have a conceptual element to it I am able to speak to those subjectivists - and it challenges me to be able to stay on the play ground and not have sand thrown in my face. So I go for it - it is my voice.

The mind is conceptual, it is a consciousness which integrates with philosophical values, like ethics, and freedom and choice. To inject rhythm into his work, like a musical score was to inject as Kandinsky stated his inner world and the conceptual conscious choice to integrate it with reality and to integrate it with his own happiness.

Blog: The Individual Artist and the Collective Concept of Freedom

Artists have the power to change, creatively not forcefully, what is there into something beautiful. The self of the artist is not the self of the viewer or another artist, but linking this power to self and the notion of freedom there is then a collective creative concept of freedom that is a beautiful idea.
Blog: Does Art Matter Anymore?

The foundations I have and that I work with when I create a work of art are always challenging me. For example the notion of all art being subjective - as an expressionist I used to live an die by that notion, but lately I have noticed that the foundations that I was taught many years ago don't work for me anymore.
Blog: Summer Grasses

“Best Of Show” Manito Art League – Manitowish Waters, WI Scott Stullen from the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota judged my work "Summer Grasses" as Best Of Show. He stated that, “Christine Alfery's piece "Summer Grasses" is an expressive take on the traditional still life/landscape painting motif. Bright circles of color dance within deep black scrawls, while black and white stripes dart between drippy white washes. The aggressive marks create dense pockets of activity and then die out into the white void. The painting easily slips between abstraction and representation and then back, revealing new depths with each visit. The evidence of the artist's hand is present throughout the piece, from frantic gestures to long finger swipes through the background. The personal scale of the piece creates a one-to-one relationship with the viewer, confronting you as you stand before it. I felt compelled to trace the artist's hand, retracing the record of activity. The overall painting mixes a formal grace with direct application of the materials to create stunning and mature work. "Summer Grasses" is my choice for Best in Show for tackling a traditional subject and imbuing it with a skillfully executed and fresh perspective. Interested in the original artwork or a print?
