Aesthetic Moment: Northwoods

How different the sounds a squirrel makes in the woods when traveling from tree top to tree top.  First the leaves ripple and make a sound like the wind, and then it stops way more abruptly than the wind. And starts again.  Then there is the sliding, scratching sound of feet against the bark on the trunk of an oak tree.  The squirrel is sliding down the tree trunk.

I look over to where I hear the sound in the very quiet morning and see deep black in the woods.  Deep black comes from the early morning moisture in the air that will change as the sun gets higher in the sky.  Change to a grey black as those early morning dew drops evaporate.

Silence again.
