Artist Statement:

I am always so honored to be included in national exhibitions. I love to enter these exhibitions and have my work included in them throughout the country. It's my way of getting my work out there for others to see.

I believe that seeing and viewing original artwork is very important in the visual arts, not only now but always. It's important to view them not only online in which there is a huge visual audience but also, in person when the exhibition is in an actual gallery. I will be glad when the normal for national exhibitions is once again an "in the gallery" actual viewing of a “real” artwork. The seeing, the feeling and the close examination are all are part of the total art experience.

A Study in the Use and Application of Color

Posted May 3, 2021
Featured images: White Bunny and Robin Red Breast

Frequently when I do small works they are a study for something. These two wonderful creatures were a study in how the use and application of color frequently carries the whole experience of the work. For example, in the White Bunny, the colors are flat and fill a shape with minimal texture and brush work. The Robin Red Breast has the same colors as White Bunny, white, teal, orange, orange variants, golden yellow, black, but the brush work, texture and application of the paint has changed and therefore, that changes the entire mood and feel of the work.

It is very hard for me to do a large work like White Bunny. But, after several small pieces that turn out as nicely as she does with the mixture of colors that she has perhaps, I will feel comfortable enough to try one.

When Did I Get Old?

Posted May 4, 2021
Picture of David Hockney and Joni Mitchell
I was going through my recent art magazines and on line newsletters and came across a photo that stopped me in my tracks. I was reading about David Hockney's new exhibition. And there was a photo of him holding hands with Joni Mitchell at the exhibition. In all the years I have studied Joni Mitchell she has never gotten old - she always remained in her 20's and 30's when I looked at her work. But age seems to catch up with all of us. In one respect I recognize myself in this photo of Joni - when did I get old? As Joni is old in this photo.

Wisdom

Posted May 5, 2021
Rarely, I mean rarely do I go back to a work after it has dried. This piece Wisdom - is an exception as is "He Sees Me" and Green Apples In A Wire Basket.
Wisdom just shouted at me - fix my right side - I am fading - fading fading. So I did - and worked in new colors throughout the work. Changed her name a little and am reposting her. It will be interesting to see if anyone says anything about her.

Are You Going To San Francisco?

Posted May 6, 2021
As I was scanning this work for my website and giclee prints I was playing "If You're Going To San Francisco" by Scott McKenzie and I was getting goosebumps all over me as I listened and watched the scan take shape. We wore our hearts outside our chest back then and believed that love would make everything ok. We should all again - wear flowers in our hair. Something tells me this will be a part of my current series on women.

"Are You Going to San Francisco"
Lyrics & Music by Scott McKenzie
by Scott McKenzie

If you're going to San Francisco
Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair
If you're going to San Francisco
You're gonna meet some gentle people there

For those who come to San Francisco
Summertime will be a love-in there
In the streets of San Francisco
Gentle people with flowers in their hair

All across the nation such a strange vibration
People in motion
There's a whole generation with a new explanation
People in motion people in motion

For those who come to San Francisco
Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair
If you come to San Francisco
Summertime will be a love-in there

If you come to San Francisco
Summertime will be a love-in there
